Tatiana Figueroa Ramirez
Tatiana Figueroa Ramirez graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and is a VONA Voices Alumna, having worked with award-winning poets Willie Perdomo and Danez Smith. As an Afroboricua poet, she has made it her mission to empower the voices of marginalized and underrepresented people through her work with non-profit organizations, community events, and the arts. Over the past 7 years, she has served in various positions with non-profit organizations, which range from an instructor bringing the performing arts to inner city children to being Program Director leading at-risk high school students to a successful, fulfilling path.
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the mainland United States, Tatiana has maintained a deep connection to her homeland, translating strongly through her poetry and, now, her involvement with the Unity March for Puerto Rico. Her hope is that she can contribute her grano de arena to help her island prosper and thrive despite the challenges it has faced.
Currently, Tatiana works with the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School located in Washington D.C., which aims to propel the education of adult immigrants living in the metropolitan area. She also serves as Secretary and Fundraising Chair for the E. Diane Champe Institute based in Maryland, which raises awareness of child abuse and provides support for adult survivors.
